“Emotional intelligence is an array of non-cognitive capabilities, competencies, and skills that influence one’s ability to succeed in coping with environmental demands and pressures.” Dr. Bar-On
Research has shown that the most successful leaders have strengths in the following emotional intelligence (EQ) competencies: self- awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skill. There are various styles of leadership; each makes use of the key components of emotional intelligence in different combinations. The best leaders don’t employ just one style of leadership—they’re skilled at several, and have the flexibility to switch between styles as circumstances dictate.
The days of lifelong employment and status quo effort are gone from the corporate environment are gone. Today’s pace and work expectations require qualities such as resilience, adaptability, optimism, initiative and cognitive flexibility. Emotional intelligence incorporates each of these elements when pursued as a whole. It invites you to be real and authentic to connect with others. Understanding what motivates you and inspires you is important. Knowing what motivates and inspires those around you is critical. And, having the insight and awareness along with the language for communicating with people in effective ways is the essence of emotional intelligence that incorporates social neuroscience. Mastery at emotional intelligence is what helps you and others reach their potential.
